How the number to words conversion works
Type an amount and the tool splits it into the Indian digit groups — arab (100 crore), crore, lakh, thousand and hundred — and writes each group out in words. Decimals are converted separately as paise. The result follows the standard format used on Indian cheques and legal documents: "Rupees … and Paise … Only". If the paise part is zero, it is left out: "Rupees One Lakh Fifty Thousand Only".
Indian vs international numbering
India groups digits differently from most of the world. The international system groups by thousands (thousand, million, billion), while the Indian system groups the first three digits, then pairs: hundred, thousand, lakh (1,00,000), crore (1,00,00,000) and arab (1,00,00,00,000).

Writing amounts on cheques in India
Banks in India require the amount in words on every cheque, and the words take precedence over the figures if there is ever a mismatch. A few habits keep you safe: always end with the word "Only" (or strike through leftover space on the line), write "and Paise" only when there are paise, and double-check lakh/crore placement — writing "One Lakh" when you meant "Ten Lakh" is a common and expensive slip.
